jrcopywriter

This is a full-time, virtual position, meaning you can work from your home, the coffee shop, or wherever it is you work best.

(This is not for people looking for part-time positions or consulting contracts).

If you LOVE to research new (and sometimes unfamiliar) topics, are comfortable turning your research into compelling and entertaining stories, and have a knack for teaching people how to do things…

…then I believe you’d be a perfect fit.

Please note: Yes, EVERYONE can spot the mistakes in the image above. It’s more of a joke, than an accurate description of what you’ll do at this position. So…

About Social Triggers

I launched Social Triggers back in 2011, and it quickly became a top destination for business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to get ahead in business and life. To date, we’ve reached more than 5,000,000 people around the world.

Our core business is simple: we create amazing online content that covers areas like negotiation, persuasion, salesmanship, social skills, online marketing, and productivity.

Most of this content is FREE on the website SocialTriggers. This includes things like our weekly web tv show Social Triggers TV (now with more than 1,500,000 views on YouTube), our podcast, and email newsletter…

…but some of this content is premium, in-depth online courses that business owners and entrepreneurs pay for. That’s how we generate revenue.

However, the FREE content is ESSENTIAL because that’s how we help business owners and entrepreneurs. It also helps us build trust and reach.

Why We Need A Junior Copywriter

Here’s the bottom line:

We want to publish more content. Both on our site, and other platforms. And to create more content, we need help from people who know how to write well.

This means you need to:

1) Generate content ideas, and write that content.

And…

2) Take ideas for content we already have, and write that as well.

And you must grasp the voice of Social Triggers and Derek Halpern (me). We’ll help you learn the voice, but the sooner you can grasp our voice off the bat, the better.

Why You Want To Work For Social Triggers

Here’s the deal:

Working at Social Triggers comes with a lot of benefits. Here’s the short list:

1. You can work from anywhere (home, coffee shops, the park, or anywhere that you have a computer and an internet connection).

2. We offer competitive salaries for great people

3. We’ll give you health insurance (and pay for 100% of the monthly premiums*). If you need health insurance for more than yourself (like your family, and etc), we’ll discuss how that works more in detail later.

4. You’ll be in charge of drafting different types of content: this will include podcast episodes, blog posts, video scripts, course scripts, and more.

5. You’ll also get paid vacation days and some holidays off.

But here’s why you’ll LOVE working for Social Triggers:

1. You’ll be paid to do what you already love… learning new things and writing about them.

2. You’ll get to work in a fast growing online training and software company, where there are loads of growth opportunities now (and in the future).

3. You’ll be part of a company that has one main goal: Helping people get more of what they want (whether it’s in business or life). We change lives – and we’re proud of it.

This Position Is PERFECT For You If:

* You already read and watch Social Triggers – and love this type of content. This is important because we find people write better when they love what they’re writing.

* You’re great at turning research and data into a compelling story or narrative. And you’re great at finding the “action tips” that are applicable to other people.

* You have a GREAT eye for nit-picking the most compelling pieces of research, stories, and people that you think will resonate with our ideal audience.

* You’re comfortable reading through blog comments, online surveys, and other forms of data to figure out what it is people want (What they say they want is different than what they really want. It’s up to you to find the difference).

* You’re happy working with ambiguity. This is a creative role that’s inspired by data and research.

Things You Will Do…

* Write well. This means you must use short sentences. And you must avoid 25 dollar words when a 10 cent word will do.

* Conduct research to find new content ideas. We pride ourselves in writing about things other people rarely write about. And we plan on keeping up with that trend in 2015.

* Fashion that research into actionable articles, video scripts, and podcasts.

* Be comfortable knowing that you’re working with a lean organization – and may have to work on other projects that may fall outside this scope of work.

Plus, if you also must be comfortable with:

* WordPress. While it’s not required, if you’re familiar with it, it’s a plus.

* Finding a good image to feature inside the post, whether it’s a picture of me (Derek Halpern), or something else related to the post.

* Know how to write persuasive, curiosity inducing headlines.

Ideally, I’d also love if you’re a great writer (and storyteller), have SOLID editorial judgment, and are comfortable working with both ambiguity and pressure.

Here’s What You Need To Do Next…

If you think you’re a fit for this full-time position, here’s what you’ll need to do:

Thing #1

Please fill out this short hiring survey

Thing #2

Complete a writing assignment.

Yes, this writing assignment is unpaid. We are expecting hundreds of applicants, and as a writer, I rather judge you based on your writing than based on your resume.

So, here’s what I’d like you to do…

1. Read these articles, and watch these videos. This will help you grasp the voice of Social Triggers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjCdf8n7hzo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TduT4-Z-uEQ
https://socialtriggers.com/2015-be-the-exception/

2. Write an article about “How to Make People Like You (Backed By Science).”

In this article, you should feature at least one thing people can do to become more likeable. And it should be backed by research. Please make sure you source that research in APA style.

Additionally, the article should be at least 1000 words. Also, plesae feel free to change the title of the article if you have a better title.

Plus, don’t forget: our target audience is entrepreneurs and business owners. And most of these entrepreneurs and business owners run online businesses. Some of them sell information products. Some sell services (like web design).

Then, when you’re done, send an email to careers@socialtriggers.com with your writing sample PLUS your resume.

Yes, this writing sample will be ‘unpaid.’ If that’s a problem, don’t apply.

The deadline for this application is February 10th.

So please submit everything before then.
