What’s up! I’m Derek Halpern, the founder of Social Triggers, and today, we’re looking to hire an associate producer.
This is a full-time, virtual position, meaning you can work from your home, the coffee shop, or wherever it is you work best.
(This is not for people looking for part-time positions or consulting contracts).
If you LOVE to research new (and sometimes unfamiliar) topics, are comfortable turning your research into a compelling and entertaining stories, and also listen to – and love – both video and audio podcasts…
…then I believe you’d be a perfect fit.
Keep reading to learn more.
Here’s the deal:
I launched Social Triggers back in 2011, and it quickly became a top destination for business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to get ahead in business and life.
Our core business is simple: we create amazing online content that covers areas like negotiation, persuasion, salesmanship, social skills, online marketing, and productivity.
Most of this content is FREE on the website SocialTriggers. This includes things like our weekly web tv show Social Triggers TV (now with more than 1,000,000 views on YouTube), our podcast, and email newsletter…
…but some of this content is premium, in-depth online courses that business owners and entrepreneurs pay for. That’s how we generate revenue.
However, the FREE content – like the weekly web tv show, and the soon to launch weekly podcast – is ESSENTIAL because that’s how we help business owners and entrepreneurs. It also helps us build trust and reach.
Why We Need An Associate Producer
Here’s the bottom line:
We have a podcast that gets published infrequently (less than once a month). And we still manage to land 30,000 listeners per episode.
Going forward, I’d like to publish this podcast weekly with hopes of breaking into the top 10 podcasts on iTunes, and landing 200,000 listeners per episode.
To make this happen, an amazing associate producer will be ESSENTIAL.
Why You Want To Work For Social Triggers
Here’s the deal:
Working at Social Triggers comes with a lot of benefits. Here’s the short list:
1. You can work from anywhere (home, coffee shops, the park, or anywhere that you have a computer and an internet connection).
2. We offer competitive salaries for great people
3. We’ll give you health insurance (and pay for 100% of the monthly premiums*). If you need health insurance for more than yourself (like your family, and etc), we’ll discuss how that works more in detail later.
4. You’ll be in charge of the new Social Triggers podcast: you’ll book guests, research podcast show ideas, craft the podcast story, write podcast scripts, and more.
5. You’ll also get paid vacation days and some holidays off.
But here’s why you’ll LOVE working for Social Triggers:
1. You’ll be paid to do what you already love… learning new things.
2. You’ll get to work in a fast growing online training company, where there are loads of growth opportunities now (and in the future).
3. You’ll be part of a company that’s has one main goal: Helping people get more of what they want (whether it’s in business or life). We change lives – and we’re proud of it.
This Position Is PERFECT For You If:
* You’re the type of person who LOVES listening to podcasts, reading new books (about business, self-growth, or biographies), and researching new and unfamiliar topics and people.
* You’re great at turning research and data into a compelling story or narrative. Yes, a lot of these podcast episodes will be interviews, but ideally, the interview should start at point A and end at point B.
* You have a GREAT eye for nit-picking the most compelling pieces of research, stories, and people that you think will resonate with our ideal audience.
* You’re comfortable reading through blog comments, online surveys, and other forms of data to figure out what it is people want (What they say they want is different then what they really want. It’s up to you to find the difference).
* You’re happy working with ambiguity. This is a creative role that’s inspired by data and research.
Here’s What You’re Required To Do
* Conduct research on new podcast ideas. This will include finding new guests, reading through their body of work, and nit-picking the BEST stuff to share on a potential podcast interview.
* Fashion that research into useable talking points (and scripts) that can be delivered to Derek to make recording podcasts MUCH easier.
* Be in charge of booking guests, figuring out how to contact these guests, and of course, ensuring that a podcast gets released each week.
* Originate podcast story ideas, test new topics, and monitor the results (downloads) of each podcast to flesh out what’s working, what’s not working, and why.
* Be comfortable knowing that you’re working with a lean organization – and may have to work on other projects that may fall outside the scope of work related directly to the podcast.
Ideally, I’d also love if you’re a great writer (and storyteller), have SOLID editorial judgment, and are comfortable working with both ambiguity and pressure.
Note: If you have audio editing skills, that’s a plus, but not required. We have an audio engineer that you’ll work with to turn a “just recorded” podcast into a “finished” product.
Here’s What You Need To Do Next…
If you think you’re a fit for this full-time position, you’ll need to do three things:
Thing #1
When you sign your name on the survey, be sure to use your BEST email address.
Thing #2
Send an email to careers@socialtriggers.com.
In that email, I need you to include TWO things:
#1 A copy of your resume.
#2 A podcast outline (as described below).
This podcast outline will require you to do some work. And you will not be compensated for that work.
Instead of relying on just a resume, I believe letting people showcase their talent and ability is the best way to find the BEST candidates.
So here’s what I want you to do:
The main audience of the Social Triggers podcast are business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, and anyone who’s looking to get ahead in their career and business.
While the Social Triggers podcast will be 30-45 minute episodes, for the purpose of this sample, I want you to create a research document that will be used for a 10 minute podcast.
What you’ll need to do is:
1. Review the types of guests we’ve had on the Social Triggers podcast in the past. And find a new guest we haven’t featured yet.
2. Come up with a relevant hook for one specific podcast (again based on our past guests and shows)
3. Create a document that includes the supporting research, talking points, and something that you’ll feel comfortable giving me so I could record that podcast.
Make sure the email address matches the email address you used to fill out this short survey.
And that’s it.
Note: You must complete all steps of this application to be considered. If you don’t, you’ll be automatically disqualified. Additionally, before we award a full-time employee position, we’ll start you off with a small, one-off project (in addition to the outline you provided for your application). We’ll compensate you for this project, and we’ll reveal details further down in our hiring process.
