Comments on: How to Negotiate: “When I negotiate, should I make the first offer?” Science says… https://socialtriggers.com/negotiation-who-makes-first-offer/ Internet Marketing Strategy Sat, 19 Oct 2019 08:06:45 +0000 hourly 1 By: Brian https://socialtriggers.com/negotiation-who-makes-first-offer/#comment-366946 Sat, 16 Dec 2017 22:28:18 +0000 https://socialtriggers.com/?p=7858#comment-366946 YES. These are the exact concepts I used to negotiate a higher salary for my current job.

The starting salary (as I found out) was $75k. I asked for a range of $145k to $150k. They then wanted to have a phone call. There, they said they were looking for a range of $90k-95k. I asked for the relocation comp of $5k to be added in. So I ended up with $98k, which was more than what a third-year employee was getting paid.

Of course, they had very high expectations that I had to catch up to, but that’s another story…

It has a very ornate ceiling and a company in the D.C. area wanted to use it for the ceiling of their conference room.

That was a new case for me, so I struggled to decide how to price it. If this were a purchase for a media buy, I’d negotiate a price using a percentage of the total budget of the marketing campaign. Using that process, I came up with my own numbers, spread it out over 10 years and proposed rights to use my photo for $3500.

The client knocked me down $200, which I didn’t mind.

I know some photographs can sell for a lot more than $3500, but this was a nice value for me and it didn’t scare off the client.
