Like yourself and Marie Forleo, I too use a conditional one that requires the purchaser to have actually tested the product or service and done the work, and I make sure that this condition is clear by highlighting it or bolding and underlining it.

I think you might like the guarantee on the front page of my website:
“My meticulously-made jewelry carries a lifetime guarantee on labor and normal wear-and-tear. That means — if an ear wire breaks, or a cord frays 5 years from now — if you care enough to mail it back to me, I care enough to make it right.”

I’m not sure how much this has impacted sales (if at all) — but in 40 years, less than a handful of jewelry has come back for repairs, and of course I’ve honored the guarantee for all of it. If anything, the guarantee and my quality have brought me some very loyal customers.

Awesome article. I appreciate that fact that you added the risk part for every guarantee section. As a business person, I know so many people who put guarantees without considering the risk to their business, especially the cash flow. The money comes in, but they don’t reserve case in case a small percent of people get the refund.

That’s when the struggle happens.
